So I got tricked into going to Spence's soccer game a few weeks ago:

An oldie but a goodie: The Broncos won some game...so my overly superstitious brothers analyzed "why" the broncos won (based on what had gone on here in the house, not on the team's game-play. ..obviously). The answer: it was because Jess had watched a good majority of that game...and she hadn't watched any previous playoff games. Therefore...she HAD to watch this game...and they made sure she did (much to her dismay).

Anticlimax: They lost.

Back to the drawing board boys.

The Superbowl

I watched it. Mostly (*only) because EVERYBODY will be talking about it all week and it's nice to be in the loop.

The Giants won, which was...neat.

I honestly couldn't have cared less who won. Why? Here's my exact reasoning:

Both teams were at a "likeness-tie" for me.

Credentials for me liking your football team in any given super bowl:

1. Does Tim Tebow play for you? yes- i. love. you. no- die.
2. Are you the raiders? yes- automatic hate. no- You've already got a leg up.
3. Are you the cowboys? See raiders info.
4. Are you a west coast team? yes: I prefer you. no: I don't.
5. Did you beat the broncos at any point during the season, cause any major damage to a player or are you the reason the broncos were eliminated from the playoffs? yes- die. no- #winning.
6. Do you have a Manning brother on your team? yes- nice, I kinda like you. They seem like good people. no- could care less.
7. Do you have tom brady on your team? yes- nice, I kinda like you. He looks like Dexter to me, therefore...I like him. no- could care less.

See? Tie.

Now, the more important issue: The Commercials. (why capitalized? dunno.)

You ever feel like there's too much Tim Tebow news? Neither do I.

Here's a roundup of some of the most interesting "Timbits" from the aftermath of the Denver Broncos 29-23 overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

• The fact that Tebow had 316 yards passing and averaged 31.6 yards per pass in the game didn't escape notice on Sunday night. Tebow wore "John 3:16" on his eye black in the 2009 BCS Championship game and has since become identified with the famous Bible message. The coincidental stats caused millions of fans to perform Google searches on the Bible passage in the past 24 hours. Here's one more unbelievable stat: John Ourand of Sports Business Journal reports that the final quarter-hour television rating for the Broncos-Steelers game was, you guessed it, 31.6.

(John 3:16 reads: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.")

• Will Brinson of CBSSports.com has some more fun with Tebow numbers.

• Tebow earned $250,000 for the victory based on an incentive written into his contract. Since he took 70 percent of the team's snaps this season, he is entitled to a quarter-million dollars for every Broncos playoff victory.

• Twitter announced that 9,420 tweets per second were sent immediately after Tebow's overtime TD pass. That set a new sports record for the social media site.

• Wondering why James Brown, Dan Marino, Bill Cowher (!), Shannon Sharpe and Boomer Esiason took an elbow during the CBS postgame show?

"You don't want to know what they'd have done if Roethlisberger had won." (Larry Brown Sports)

The television ratings for Broncos-Steelers could provide a clue: The game pulled in a whopping 25.9 rating for CBS, becoming the highest-rated AFC wild-card game since 1988. (That was 24 years ago, pre-Internet and before a majority of Americans had cable or satellite.) Variety estimates 45 million people watched Tebow's touchdown pass in overtime.

• Here was the headline from the popular news site, The Drudge Report, in the minutes after Tebow hit Demaryius Thomas on that 80-yard touchdown pass in overtime:

• Tebow was the first NFL player to complete four passes of 30+ yards in a single quarter of an NFL playoff game.

• ESPN's QBR rating says Tebow's second quarter was the third-best single quarter from a QB in the NFL since 2008.

Quandary: Am I irritated or disappointed?

…I can’t decide. The mental battle for the answer to this is in full force right now, proving very distracting while trying to function like a normal human being. Blah.

What I do know, however, is that I’m currently feeling quite introspective, so let’s see where that takes us…

I’ve been trying to sort out a lot of things lately, making decisions regarding stuff I’ve put off dealing with until “after the holidays,” and…I’ve come to the realization of a few things that I’ll share with you in just a second. But first, you know those “getting to know you” games they play in relief society or at little gatherings/parties, whatever, with lists of superficial “getting to know you” questions like, “what’s your favorite candy” (as if telling people I enjoy Mounds really says anything significant about me), “what is your favorite flower” (calla lily…so I’m plain? Dunno.) or “list three words that describe you”?

Well people, I think I’ve got my words (or…phrases, rather).

I AM (in no particular order):

1. Debilitatingly analytical

2. Overly cynical

3. Irrationally rational (yeah.)

I am also very independent. More so than maybe even I realize. This is clearly a defensive mechanism. I hate getting hurt and/or disappointed by people/situations, so I make sure I don’t place my happiness in the hands of others because they’ll inevitably disappoint/hurt me (not always intentionally). If not today, tomorrow. If not tomorrow…sometime...right? On occasion, though, I do let my defenses down and start to place faith in certain individuals (people that, maybe, I feel have done the time or have proven themselves reliable..?). As pathetic or sad as it sounds…I hate when I do that. I abhor vulnerability. Giving someone even the tiniest bit of power over my happiness has proven…the most impossible thing for me to do (#insight).

Similarly, I hate hurting/disappointing others. I allow only a few people to see “Me-Me.” I’d say that I put on somewhat of an act for the outside world (were the Academy and Hollywood Foreign Press evaluating my performances over the course of my lifetime, I’m confident my room would have shelves lined with Oscars, Golden Globes, etc.), but I feel like it’s more accurate to describe myself as functionally bipolar. By that I simply mean, I’m always me, just different versions of me (ie. Work-Me, Church-Me, Social-Me, etc). Most people do this (and you’re lying to yourself if you say that you don’t), so it’s not that I feel fake…but it does get rather exhausting, doesn’t it?

I’m not too sure what I aimed at getting from writing these thoughts out…or how long I’ll keep this post up, but I think I might like to revisit these thoughts sometime down the line.

And yeah…I do kind of feel better. Anyway. I’ll put up some picture-posts of the holidays and such soon! (before the semester starts, I swear).
