The Awkward Turtle

I'm not sure what to make of this turtle. He's either x-gaming in his cage or asleep in some freakish manner (usually awkwardly pressed up against the glass of the aquarium)...

asleep.

hangin' out?

asleep.

Maybe they got the phrase all wrong.
I think awkward turtles facilitate awkward moments.

(how many times have YOU used "awkward" in a single post!? #winning)

sucks///awesome.

Many of the pictures featured on this blog come from my handy-dandy-phone. A lot of times I take pics of stuff to send to people (helping explain certain situations or...just, whatever) and I never end up deleting them from my gallery. The other night I was clearing my crap-infested phone-gallery and decided there were a few things I thought worthy of sharing with you:

First, things that SUCK:
Trains.
exceptions: the hogwarts express and the polar express

My house is really close to a set of train tracks and, for more than half of my life now, I've been accustom to the sound of train-horns at all hours of the g.d. day/night, but as of late, I think I've been stopped waiting for every. single. train. that has passed through Nevada. Seriously. BUG. Sure, not a big deal when you're in no hurry...but when you've got places to be...UGH!

sun visors.

I am approximately 5ft 7inches tall. Not too tall (unless you attend my church) but not too short. So...riddle me this: why is it that no matter WHERE the sun is in the sky, my sun-visor isn't able to serve it's purpose? The sun is always a little to ______ (high/low/left/right/etc) and my visor: A. isn't long enough, B. isn't wide enough, C. isn't able to rotate that way, etc etc. There's GOT to be a better way! (and don't tell me sunglasses. they work...to an extent)

clinic.
(a story for a different time)

cleaning this situation.
(that's #11, 12 and 13 playing musical-tooth-sockets or whatever)

bird crap
(I hate birds.)

BLOOD ON MY SHOES!!!

I'm going to invest in a SUPER cute pair of clinical shoes that i wear only at work. I know. Gross. But I CAN NOT HANDLE BLOOD GETTING ON MY SHOES!!! And I can't help it if patients occasionally close their lips around the suction too freakin' fast, spewing who-knows-what all over themselves (haha. karma) and me!

Now, things that are pretty Awesome:

This pic
(jess brought it home from Church, I thought it was cute)

google it. he's awesome.

tiiiny OPI nailpolish at Target!!!

the guy who thought it was okay to sit along the sidelines
blocking EVERYBODY's view at a soccer game.
Pretentious.

Phone-freak-outs

My phone has decided to cut texts from conversations at random, and then deliver these fragments all at once (at any given moment). It's suuuuper fun trying to make sense of texts i could/should have received weeks, maybe even months ago...

~cheers

Celeste is "one year older and wiser too..."

I was supposed to go to Disneyland with Celeste (her ONE request), but I suck and couldn't.

Much to my relief, she assured me her birthday wasn't completely ruined by me...

On the actual anniversary of the day-of-her-birth, everyone (basically) was working/away, so we celebrated on the day after. Celeste and Jess went and saw The Lion King (the play, not the movie), then they came home and we did the dinner/gifts thing per usual.

cute and fall-ish!

her thematically appropriate dinnerware

pumpkin/chocolate chip cookies

Gift Opening:
my brothers are HAMs

precious.

(no, those aren't 80's shiny spandex pants I'm wearing.
my black jeans apparently photograph weird.)

SCOOTER:
the scooter was a hit!
I decided to somewhat repair her shabby blanket (something she's been asking mom to do forever) and when she saw it had been done...she was 'moved.'

:')

oh, and she also got a card from Billiam.

"Happy Birthday to Youuuu!"

her and her blankets.
(nutter)

Congrats on making it thru another year of life, and here's to hoping for an even better next year !

xoxo,
Gossip Girl

iSew

Well...technically, iTieBlankets...

I thought it would be fun to learn to make a tie quilt and, no better time than conference weekend, right?

So, I went over to Seriza's (her dad made these awesome quilting frames that made the entire process SO much easier) and we made two quilts (a boy quilt and a girl quilt) that I'm going to take over to the hospital for some orphaned children or something (no joke).

Buuuut, with this new skill comes new obligation. Celeste's beloved pink lap-blanket is basically a rag now, so she asked that I make her a blanket for her birthday. We went over to Joann's, she picked the material and...I made her a blanket.

Celeste's blanket
(beginning stage)

(I borrowed the quilting frames and mom and I watched "The King's Speech"
while working our fingers to the bone...)

working on the boy blanket
(obviously)

Me, bed head--mwahaha--, my green tea and a needle and thread.
Typical.

I was able to figure out the binding-process as well (sucks), and though it's cheaper, faster, more convenient and just as satisfying (to me, at least) to BUY a blanket, they did turn out pretty cute! I just have to sew the binding to the boy blanket (it's already pinned) and then I can drop them off. I'll let you know how that goes...

FĂștbol

Spence's soccer season is finally winding down and we're now in the ...playoffs? I don't know. Anyway, today I was able to attend a game out at friggen' Rancho High School (if your familiar with Vegas, it's right off of Bonanza and Mexico*). We played Desert something (oasis? pines? valley? something) and here are a few glimpses of what keep me coming back to high school soccer games...

The Acting:
(upper left corner)

The Cleats:
(highlighter yellow, purple and pink, leopard print, punky-brewster-esque, etc)

The Lingo:
since 99.2% of the people present are ESL's*,
soccer games can be the BEST/cheapest/most entertaining
form of Spanish-refreshment out there
(obviously coming in at a close second to none other than the amazing telenovelas)

Watching Spence (#15) socialize...
"hey dude, what up? cool shirt."

"dang guys, we just met!"

"who wants the ball?"
"ooh me!" "no me!" "noo me!"

"dude. i don't do that"

Reaaaady???

GO!

The Spectators/Hecklers:
matty. doin' what he loves most
(...probably not)

mhm.

ugh. gives me the creeps.

Rufio and Pauly D's love child

cute

The Refs:
They're all really horrible
(no, i'm not being biased. it's the god's honest truth)
but EVERY TIME I see them "deliver" a card...I can't help but think of this gem:

The Coaches:
the half time pep talk from Uganda and Chaz (<--who pranced himself onto the
field in a 'moment of passion' and ended up with a pretty little red card)

The Lone Goalie:
What an awful position.
Either you're standing there doing nothing...
or you're getting the futbol launched at your face 100,000mph.

The WINners!!! :)
YEEAAAYUUUH!

The Losers :)
"SORRY 'BOUT IT"

and finally, the weird post-game/win Huddle:
(check the sherbet-shoes. ha. awesome)

So yeah, we won! which is my favorite thing. This means we go to ..regionals? whatev, there's another game Saturday against EHS (which, despite common misconception, does not stand for Ecuador High School, nor El Salvador High School).

Good luck Gators!
(-ish. if they win that game, they go to reno the following week and...brrrrrr, is the only thing coming to mind :\)

*no, i'm not being a racist. go there and see for yourself. i'm merely reporting facts here

Poll

Alright. As lame as it might be, I made a little poll (over there on the right). I've been considering a couple things:

1) dumping the blog altogether after bill is back (he was my main motivation behind starting the dang thing up, and seeing as he'll be home in ONE MONTH, I don't know what relevance there is in keeping it...)
2) "going private," and by that I mean, just keeping it locked up and making it like my journal...(more personal/embarrassing probably)

It might help me decide (since decisive-ness hasn't been my strong suit, as of late) what I'm going to do if you voted (it could just mean absolutely nothing to me...I dunno, I haven't decided yet. ...but I guess we'll see). And by "you" i mean either of my two followers, or anyone else that may creep (no shame. I'm the WORST). Leave a comment too, if you feel so inclined (or don't, just maybe vote. but just once...please.)

thanks.
