Paris :)
We left Switzerland and made the 700km (8hr) drive to Paris, arriving at around 6pm Monday night.
the Paris freeway
Shout out to mom! :)
The Arc de Triomphe
(much Much MUCH bigger than you'd think!!!)
Chans de lise :D
This is Paris' version of Las Vegas BLVD, except the one in France is better... 2km long and ALL ABOUT SHOPPING!!!
Charles De Gaulle
This statue of Mr. De Gaulle sits at just-about the midway point down the Chans de lise, separating where the AMAZING shops end, and the beautiful parks begin. This road basically starts at the Arc de triomphe and roughly ends around where the Louvre begins (to kind of paint a picture in your head of this area in Paris and where some of these attractions lie).
Ever seen "The Devil Wears Prada"? Apparently Anne Hathaway throws something into this fountain at some point during the movie... I'm sure it has some other significance but... I'm an idiot and don't really know anything... :\
Just...beautiful!
La Tour Eiffel
Parisian street signs... :)
It was really cold! I wasn't trying to be fashionable (I gave up on that long ago). :)
I have no idea what all that means. Jess says the word "Fish" is somewhere on there...?
That's right ladies and gents, I climbed it!
Here's my happy face, 2 steps into the 750 stair adventure...
maybe 50 stairs up...
Landing #1: Doing okay still. A little tired, but not too bad.
View from the 1st landing
lol
I MADE IT!!!
I think I stopped more than the smokers...but whatever! I did it!
WHAT NOW, SON!?
The view from the 2nd landing.
Jacket and Scarf off.
Sweaty and gross, but SO happy! :)
We waited for 20min in line to get to the lift to the top, hence the change in the night sky.
Going up...
700 stairs and 15 Euro Later...
I made it to the top!
SOO cold and windy, but again, it was so beautiful! :)
For Jess :D
(Next time you'll be there in person,
not in the form of a bracelet!)
That little lighted area in the center is a basketball court
(to give you some idea of how high up we were).
I'm not sure the math is correct, but I saw the American flag and figured I better get a pic of it...
Going back down...
Here's what the tower looks like without the lights on...
And here's a terrible example (terrible because it doesn't do the real-life experience ANY justice) of what the Eiffel Tower looks like when the lights "go off."
Something you can really only see to believe how amazing it is!
Seriza was a bit tired!
(the wind at the top of the tower may have added to the red-eye...and...now that I think back... she was sniffing something from an envelope she got from some random stranger in Amsterdam too...hmmm?!? :D)
Where's Ben Stein when you need him?
("Clear Eyes")
Here's what Parisian Pigeons look like!
:P
Breakfast along the Chans de lise
on our "free day" was the best and
MOST AMAZING
food of the entire trip!
Here we're pouring hot chocolate from a cute
little pot into our teacups. :)
the 7 story Louis Vuitton!
Me with the 'Arc.
THE AMAZING BATHROOMS!!!
Yeah, that's a wall of toilette paper.
Which kind would you like?
Best 2 Euro I've ever spent!!!
Heading towards Notre Dame Cathedral there was some amazing architecture!
A French garbage can.
(How do they make even the trash look delicate?!)
More Parisian street signs...
Crepes!
yummmmm
Chocolate/Banana for me.
STUPID PIGEON
Take #2: much better. :)
What are these people looking at, you ask?
BIRDS!
YUUUUUCK!!!
Charlemagne!
Notre Dame Cathedral
The 3 hour line to get in...
Some interesting info re: the cathedral.
Quasimodo resides in that black spiked spier. :)
HECK YES.
I'll take anyone, anytime.
Bring it.
On the Paris metro.
Beat (as is apparent in my appearance), but headed back to the hotel to change for our group dinner and show later that night.
That's as much of the Lovre I got to see... :(
It was, of course, closed the day we were there.
Jason's Paris-Contiki-Itinerary.
That's me, arms mimicking the lady on the billboard, the little black and white speck. :)
Seriza and me at our goodbye dinner with my two favorite
people from the tour: Brendan and Veronica from Singapore!
With our friend from Mexico!
The dinner...was not great, and the show...wasn't any better, BUT, it was an experience! And hanging out with the group was a lot of fun!
Paris in one word: Incredible!!!
